LJ Swanson moved to Asheville from the US Virgin Islands, and has since been adapting to dry land and cool mountain air. A contemplative mystic at heart, her approach to the visual and healing arts—as well as to fiction writing—leans toward the esoteric, is informed by and deeply rooted in nature. Luvia’s first foray into geometric art was digging a 60’ diameter Chartres labyrinth into the earth of her backyard, with paths inter-planted with flowers. “Imperfect Symmetry” Mandalas have grown out of her ever-evolving appreciation for the underlying geometry of creation. The geometries in each one present an invitation to visually enter “worlds” wherein a more expansive perception might become available. The shapes are almost-but-not-quite symmetrical…just like maple leaves or our own human faces.
