About Chris Corral:
My name is Chris Corral. I was born in Lubbock, Texas and moved to Hendersonville, NC in 1992. I attended Western Carolina University from 1996-2001where I earned a BFA in Fine Art. My father was born in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico, and my mother is descendant from among the first Spaniards and Native Americans that inhabited what was once the Sonora in Mexico and escaped to Texas. As such I was raised with a very strong mix of American, Mexican and “Texican” heritage. The images I create are heavily informed by my travels through Northern Mexico, Texas and our own beautiful North Carolina. Every painting depicts moments from imagined and remembered stories. In each of these stories the characters are on journeys. My art is also very concerned with identity, culture, heritage, and social issues. These images are one of the ways I attempt to create dialogue about social issues and journeys through life in our society today.
